Kuwait: Ali Abdulwahab Al Mutawa Commercial Co. (AAW) and The North Face, an American brand and one of the largest outdoor apparel and gear retailers, today announced that their sponsored team, The Kuwait Extreme Team, completed the 9th edition of the Titan Desert endurance race, an outdoor challenge that ranks as the longest and toughest mountain biking race in the world.

The Kuwait Extreme Team, which was sponsored and supported by The North Face, comprised Ahmad AlMajed, renowned for being Kuwait’s first ‘Iron Man’, as well as Ahmed AlHuzami, sports enthusiast and founder of Pro-vision Sports Management. The Kuwaiti duo successfully crossed a tedious Moroccan desert terrain of about 750 kilometers.

AAW General Manager of the Outdoors Division, Ali F. Al Mutawa said: “We are extremely proud of our young Kuwaiti athletes for participating in and completing one of the toughest endurance races, and we will continue to support them in all of their athletic endeavors around the region.”

Al Mutawa added: “We have had an ongoing relationship with extreme sports in ensuring that Kuwaiti athletes are well-prepared for any arduous challenges that they embark on, and The North Face alone has been supporting Kuwait Extreme Team with top-of-the-line outdoor gear and apparel for over eight years now.”

The “Kuwait Extreme Team” has participated in the Titan Race for the first time alongside 470 other participants, and successfully completed the race in 58 hours.

Kuwaiti Iron Man and Titan Desert Race participant, Ahmad AlMajed said: “Crossing the Titan Desert finish line was a very special moment for us. We had to go through a lot of tough obstacles, and it was much harder than previous years, to the extent that 38% of the participants dropped out of the race due to heat and exhaustion. With The North Face’s apparel and equipment, the challenge was easier for us, and we thank AAW and The North Face for helping us achieve our goals.”

With a commitment to the Kuwaiti community, AAW both develops and supports sports, health and athletic initiatives, including marathons, programs and other challenges like the Al Roudan Tournament, the Kuwait Charity Run, The Flying Start Triathlon, and The North Face Challenge, a locally organized outdoor challenge for outdoor enthusiasts across the country.
