Construction firm awarded honour from esteemed British Safety Council

Arabian Construction Company (ACC) has won a highly regarded International Safety Award for its construction of the prestigious Fountain Views project, which is located in Downtown Dubai. The UAE-based construction firm collected the Merit Award from the esteemed British Safety Council, a non-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring best practice in health and safety at the workplace.

“We are delighted to have been awarded this accolade in recognition of our relentless commitment to health, safety and environment management. At Fountain Views, as with most of our project sites, we face particular challenges due to its location in the busy Downtown Dubai area, close to main roads, other construction sites and structures which are already occupied” said Mohammad Bidad, Group HSE Manager, ACC.

“We take stringent measures to minimise and prevent the occurrence of accidents, not only for our workforce, but also to protect the welfare of the general public. Our Health and Safety team work diligently to ensure that we deliver projects safely and this has been evidenced in our successful accumulation of nine million LTI (lost time due to injury) free hours at the Fountain Views project, a figure we attained this week. We are thrilled that our overall safety record has been formally recognised with such an important industry award,” he added.

Now in its 57th year, the British Safety Council’s International Safety Awards seek to celebrate and promote the success of the winning organisations and their employees in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all. They are open to businesses and public bodies of all sizes across all industries and from around the world. Those receiving the accolade have successfully demonstrated to the satisfaction of the scheme’s independent judges their commitment to preventing workplace injuries and work-related ill health.

This year is the third consecutive year that ACC has received an International Safety Award. The 2015 programme saw a total of 514 winners from around the world, with ACC one of the select few recipients in the UAE. For the last two years, ACC was bestowed the honour for the high level of health and safety management it had initiated across its entire projects portfolio. This year, the judges asked ACC to nominate a specific project for the awards to be judged on, with the company selecting Fountain Views.

“On behalf of the Trustees and staff of the British Safety Council, we warmly congratulate Arabian Construction Company and its employees on gaining an International Safety Award with merit for 2015. All of those working for ACC at the Fountain View project have made this award possible, which recognises their commitment to preventing injury and ill health in the workplace,” said Neal Stone, acting Chief Executive, British Safety Council.

“The International Labour Organisation estimates that every year over 2.3 million people globally are senselessly killed due to workplace injury and work-related ill health and an estimated 4% of global GDP is lost due to health and safety failure. Awards have an important role to play in shining a light on those employers who are taking sensible and effective steps to ensure the health, safety and welfare of their workers, celebrating their efforts and encouraging other businesses everywhere. The International Safety Awards rightly reflects the importance of aiming for good standards of health and safety at work. Arabian Construction Company should rightly be proud of its achievement,” he added.
