The 10th edition of the Abu Dhabi Science Festival (ADSF), organised by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), is filled with a wide range of exciting, thrilling, and educational workshops, exhibits, and live shows offered to students and all members of society. The festival runs until the 8th of February, 2020, and takes place at A’l Bahar on Abu Dhabi Corniche, Al Jahili Park in Al Ain and City Mall in Al Dhafra.

ADSF features more than 100 unique workshops and live shows that focus on educating and motivating the younger generations, igniting their passion for science and elevating their skills through innovative engaging techniques.

The Workshops
The ‘S.T.E.M. Discovery’ workshop allows children to participate in various practical and professional activities to discover science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a fun way. The workshop also offers children the opportunity to create prototypes and robots from a range of materials and even design their own logos.

The ‘Satellite Creators’ workshop helps students learn about and then design ‘pico’ satellites which are tiny machines that work using transmitters and wireless sensors. During the workshop, students will actually build a satellite and plan its orbit.

‘Power It Up!’ is a workshop that will take students on a journey into the world of nuclear energy, where they learn about the radioactive particles that surround us, explore energy generation in a nuclear power plant, and discover the incredible force of steam reactors. The workshop will even help students generate electricity on their own.

During the ‘Scientists’ Lab’ workshop, students will experience chemical reactions through a set of practical exercises and work with chemicals and materials to test the power of hydrogen. Students will also learn how to distinguish between acid, neutral and base substances.

The ‘Studio – Animation Station’ workshop will help students discover how our eyes see movement and how ‎animators use this knowledge, before ‎making their very own animation of the Abu Dhabi Science Festival. Students will be exploring different types of animation, from the very earliest to the latest examples, and will discover how animators have vastly improved their ‎work using the most up-to-date technology.

The ‘Einstein Show’ workshop includes a spectacular collection of astounding science experiments, illusions, and tricks. Children of all ages will be amazed by features such as Fast Burning Paper, Burning Bubbles, Vanishing Water, Magic Ropes and the Freezing Dry Ice Shower.

At the ‘Mission to Mars’ workshop, students learn how to program a robot to ‎navigate the Martian terrain and successfully ‎deliver the UAE flag to the space ‎station.

Live Shows
The Festival includes a captivating range of live shows; including Busking Bikes, Prehistoric Aquarium, Super Hero Show, Expanding Gas Show, Strong Women Science!, the Abu Dhabi Challenge, Defying Gravity, the Mansour live Show, CO2 Race Show, Mystery Fizzics, and Caution – Wet Paint.

The ‘Defying Gravity’ show features two young and enthusiastic scientists doing their best to make it into outer space and defy earth’s gravity. Students will be inspired by the wonders of physics and chemistry through a collection of amazing experiments and sensational science.

The ‘Super Hero Show’ features a superhero who will take students on a journey to ‎Mars. Little scientists will create exciting science experiments that harness the power of frozen carbon dioxide (dry ice) and mix it in a mind-melting ‎experiment, to breathe fire like a dragon.

During the ‘Prehistoric Aquarium’ show, students discover, through an amazing visual experience, the hidden depths of the ocean where prehistoric marine creatures lived.

These are just some of the amazing events taking place during the Abu Dhabi Science Festival.

The Abu Dhabi Science Festival runs until the 8th of February and is open for school trips from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and to the public from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm on weekdays and from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm at weekends.

We invite ADSF visitors to plan their visit before arriving at the festival to make the most out of their experience.
