GREEN GLOBE RECOGNITION FOR PARK REGIS KRIS KIN HOTEL, DUBAI

The Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai team has won Green Globe certification for the third consecutive year, highlighting the management commitment to energy conservation, recycling and other environmentally friendly policies.

According to General Manager Scott Butcher, the global certification results from an assessment of sustainability performance with 44 mandatory core criteria and more than 380 compliance indicators. “Conservation is a key corporate focus and I am delighted at the efforts of my team in qualifying for Green Globe recertification and incorporating green measures in all areas of our operations without impacting on guest service – at a time when we have increased occupancy by nearly four per cent in 2014 over 2013”.

“Regular Green Team presentations for staff, Green Meetings options for client events, third party waste recycling training and smarter purchasing programmes underlined our team efforts and were essential part of the hotel’s Sustainability Management Plan,” he said.

“We achieved 3.66 per cent savings on energy use last year, compared to 2013, and also reduced water consumption by 10.5 per cent,” Scott said.

Current initiatives at the Park Regis Kris Kin include the segregation of hazardous materials to safely dispose of batteries and fluorescent bulbs, recycling of electrical and electronic equipment and ink cartridges as well as used cooking oil, treatment of waste water and recycling of grey water.

Recycling operations have also been extended to cover glass and plastic packaging, metal cans, restaurant organic waste and cardboard packaging as well as paper, newspapers and magazines, while packaging of hygiene products in guest bathrooms and other hotel supplies has been limited.
