The Medeor 24×7 Hospital Ramadan Health Majlis, the first of its kind by a Hospital in the UAE, treated 2580 patients for free during the Holy Month. The Health Majlis was set up in order to provide the residents of the UAE free blood pressure and blood sugar checks, BMI assessments and dietary advice as a goodwill gesture keeping in the spirit of the Month.

Of the 2580 patients that availed of the free primary check-ups, seventeen percent of them were referred to the Hospital for further consultations with the Specialists. Sixty four percent of these patients consulted with the Specialists and availed of the diagnostic services on offer at a fifty percent discount.

Alongside the primary check-ups, health talks were conducted by the Doctors to raise awareness on various health issues. These sessions were interactive allowing the community access to clear their health concerns with the Doctors. In accordance with the religious fervor of Ramadan, Qur’an competitions were also held at the Majlis.

“Most people will not avail of these simple check-ups which can help detect a more serious health problem due to financial constraints and lack of time. Hence in accordance with the spirit of giving during Ramadan, Medeor 24×7 Hospital organized the Ramadan Health Majlis and offered those who visited the Majlis a 50% discount on Consultation and Diagnostics to avail at the Hospital,” said Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq, Specialist – Internal Medicine, Medeor 24X7 Hospital. “The Hospital also ran a special promotion during the month of Ramadan for patients to enjoy health screening packages for only AED399.”

“The most common problems patients presented with were gastric ailments and urinary tract infections. This is an indication of very poor eating habits and chronic dehydration amongst the community – these can lead to serious health problems in the digestive system and in the kidneys,” said Dr. Shafeeq. “We hope through the Ramadan Health Majlis, people take back awareness of these health concerns and make changes to their diet and aim to drink at least 2 liters of water a day.”

“Another alarming concern at the Ramadan Health Majlis was the large number of patients with diabetes, hypertension and obesity. These are ailments caused by lifestyle habits and can lead to cardiovascular heart disease and can have systemic consequence on other organs of the body,” he continued. “These patients met with Specialists who highlighted the importance of making lifestyle changes in order to better their health.”

“Medeor 24×7 Hospital is committed to raising the health standards of the residents of the UAE and we hope we have made an impact through the Ramadan Health Majlis,” said Dr. Shajir Gaffar, CEO of VPS Healthcare for Dubai and the Northern Emirates. “We hope to make this a long standing tradition during the Holy Month of Ramadan.”
